Autumn Spectacular – A Golden Time to be in Frisco

Ah, autumn in Colorado. Your day-time shadows get a little longer, while the days get a little shorter. The air gets a little brisker, while the trees turn a little brighter. It’s a perfect time to head to the hills for a little rest and relaxation – and a little fun. Frisco, Colorado, Main Street to the Rockies, is the ideal place to get away, yet be close to it all. With top-notch lodging, dining and shopping, plus weeks of deals and unique events, Frisco has it all.

Frisco is hosting its Autumn Spectacular from September 6–20, 2008. During the three weeks, lodgers, restaurants and retailers will be offering special 9,097 Deals (Frisco’s elevation is 9,097). With such great deals, you can come up and stay awhile. Use Frisco as your home base for aspen leaf peeping. Plus, the town is offering a limited production of fine wines, created especially for Frisco. Enjoy 9097 Main Street Meritage or Peak One Gewurztraminer, and take some home as gifts for souvenirs.

To give you even more reason to visit Colorado’s favorite main street, Frisco is hosting Colorado’s first-ever international fly fishing tournament and only the second one to ever be held in the United States. Fifteen teams from the U.S., Hungary, Poland, Australia, Japan and Ireland will compete for top fly fishing honors in The America Cup, September 8–12, 2008. While the competition is invitation only, anyone can come and watch the top teams battle it out for our rivers’ biggest trout.

The mountain pine beetle has wreaked havoc on Colorado’s pine forests. Experts say the infestation will claim nearly 90 percent, or 1.53 million acres, of the state’s mature lodge pole pines by the time it ends. To top it off, containment and prevention efforts can only affect a small portion of the epidemic. Rather than lament about the devastation, however, the Town of Frisco wants to bring broader awareness and celebrate the progress that the state has made against this tiny destructive invader.

Frisco is hosting its first-ever BeetleFest, Saturday, September 20. The day is a combination of zaniness and education. Carnival rides, an opportunity to bash a bug (a VW, that is), food and drink, and a Beatles cover band, along with examples of furniture made from beetle-kill wood and booths that offer more information about the pine beetle will compose the day. Money raised will go toward reforestation efforts.

Finally, Frisco will host the Salomon Equinox also on September 20. The event will feature the Frisco Fall Trail Running Festival, where runners will travel across mountain trails around Lake Dillon and in Frisco’s Nordic Center.

Wherever your interests lie, for three weeks in September, the Town of Frisco will offer a little fall fun for everyone.
